What is outsourcing?


So, what is outsourcing? Outsourcing is dealing with another company or person to do a particular function. Almost every big organization in the world today outsources in some way. Usually, the function being outsourced is backend in nature to the main core of the business. An airline company, for example, might outsource its customer grievances cell and booking operations to firms that specialize in those types of work abroad to cut cost since they are not related to airlinescore business. These outsourcing firms that are providing the outsourcing services are third-party providers, and are more commonly called, service providers. Although outsourcing has been around for a long time, in the last decade, companies started outsourcing its operations to carry out functions, such as HR, legal and financial advice, software development etc. These processes could be done more efficiently and effectively in other countries with the help of these service providers who hire dedicated employees for the work outsourced and therefore making it more cost effective.

Currently, outsourcing has taken various avatars. Organizations still hireservice providers to handle various business, knowledge and legal processes.  But some organizations outsource their complete operations. The most common being Information technology outsourcing (ITO) and business process outsourcing (BPO). Outsourcing to India is huge and has given a major boost to the Indian economy. It has emerged as a leader in outsourcing services

 These outsourcing deals are multi-year contracts and run into hundreds of millions of dollars depending on the kind of project which is outsourced. Commonly, the people performing the work for the client’s organization are transferred and become employees for the service provider who hire dedicated employees in their country for the project assigned by the client.
Outsourcing services immenselycontributesin transforming big corporations to have a more dynamic, cost-effective and round the clock operations.
